In an insulated home a quarter of the heating is lost through the roof.  Insulating your attic space is a simple and effective way to reduce your heating bills.

Adding insulation above the minimum building requirements, whether in a commercial or residential space, significantly increases energy savings and enhances the overall quality of the indoor environment.

Process

The recommended standard of roof insulation to achieve the required U-value of 0.16w/m2K  is currently at 300mm depth (2007 Building Reg.).  Even if you insulate your attic, it may be still losing heat as it may not be up to the Building Regulations standards and may need to be topped up.

This process typically takes 4-5 hours and includes insulating pipes and water tanks, insulating and draught-proofing the access hatch, and also protecting recessed lights from insulation.  If your water tank is more than 1 meter from your access hatch a minimum of 400mm (16inches approx.) boardwalk will also be fitted.

NB: We only upgrade Attic Insulation in conjunction with External Insulation works.

Attic Insulation Benefits

  • Reduces heating bills
  • Increased comfort levels
  • Low-cost measure
  • Short payback periods

Effectiveness of Insulation

The effectiveness of insulation material is measured using a U-Value, a measure of how much heat is conducted through a structure.  Insulation installed correctly will have a low U-Value as it will allow only small amounts of heat to pass through, thereby keeping your home warm.
